The St. Louis Cardinals have activated Matt Holliday from the disabled list and promptly placed the power hitting outfielder in the starting lineup for Thursday night's game against the Washington Nationals.
Holliday has been bothered by a quad injury since May 18th and returns from the disabled list sporting a .342 average with seven home runs and 32 RBI's on the season.
To make room for Holliday, the Cardinals placed young reliever Eduardo Sanchez on the disabled list, citing shoulder stiffness.
The 22 year old right-hander has appeared in 25 games for the Cardinals this season, posting a 2-1 record with five saves, seven holds, and a 1.88 ERA.
