Cardinals Promote Raul Valdes

St. Louis Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak continues to make moves to shake up the team's beleaguered bullpen.

One day after cutting ties with veteran reliever Miguel Batista, the Cardinals have promoted left-handed throwing Raul Valdes from Memphis.  In order to make room on the Cardinals roster, they have optioned Mikael Cleto back to Double AA Springfield.

The promotion of Valdes gives the Cardinals three left-handed options out of the bullpen and possibly foreshadows another roster move coming shortly as both Brian Tallet and Trevor Miller have struggled mightily this season.

Valdes has been outstanding out of the Memphis bullpen this season after struggling as a starter.  Since converting to a left-handed specialist, Valdes has appeared in 14 games and has posted a 0.55 ERA while holding opponents to a .109 batting average.
