During Tuesday night's game against the Houston Astros, Cardinals outfielder Allen Craig ran into the right field wall in foul territory chasing after a fly ball that landed in the seats. Craig sufferred a gash major gash in his leg, which caused Craig to leave Tuesday's game.
"I banged my knee pretty good on that steel railing," said Craig. "I hit it pretty hard. It gave me a good gash on my knee. It's tough, because the fence right there is no more than a few feet from the foul line. When you're running that fast, it's tough to tell whether the ball is going to be fair or foul. It kind of snuck up on me."
Craig has not returned to the lineup since which is bad news for the Cardinals considering how well Craig has played in his utility role. In 40 games this season, Craig is hitting .336 with four home runs and 23 RBI's while spending time playing the outfield as well as second and third base.
Luckily for the Cardinals, they are not expecting Craig to make a visit to the disabled list.
"He just checked me out and made sure there was nothing wrong with my ligament," said Craig, who needed three stitches to close the cut on his knee. "There's nothing seriously wrong. I hope they don't put me on the DL. I feel like I'll be ready to go pretty soon. The last thing I want to do is be on the DL and be healthy for 10 days."
