Will Cardinals Have Quick Hook On Eduardo Sanchez?

The St. Louis Cardinals have yet to officially name a closer, but many felt that the organization was leaning towards handing the reigns to the ninth inning to rookie flame thrower Eduardo Sanchez.

But after Sanchez blew the save in Friday night's 6-5 loss to the Cincinnati Reds, it is natural to question if that is really going to be the case.

Prior to Friday night, Sanchez had been incredible in relief, converting all four of his save opportunities while dancing around trouble on occasion.  The rookie has struck out 22 hitters in 15.1 innings this season and has shown flashes of electric stuff.

But now that Sanchez has cost the Cardinals a game, will they have a quick hook and give somebody else a shot at the ninth inning?

Mitchell Boggs was given the first crack at the ninth inning earlier this season and started out well, converting his first three opportunities.  But as soon as Boggs blew a save in Houston on April 26th, Boggs has not sniffed the ninth inning

So what will acting manager Joe Pettini do with Sanchez now that he has failed for the first time?  Will he send his talented 22 year old back into the fire?  Will the Cardinals turn to Fernando Salas, w ho has been lights out and also converted three save opportunities?  Will Boggs get another chance?

"He's got the stuff," Pettini said. "And he just, he still has to get his feet wet a little more and gain some more confidence. He's a really good pitcher. And he's trying to learn in the toughest spot there is in a game -- in the ninth inning. Hopefully, the more experience he gets, the better off he gets."

If you read into Pettini's comments in any way, it feels as if Sanchez will still be the man in the ninth inning.
