St. Louis Cardinals reliever Jake Westbrook has recovered nicely after a slow start to the 2011 season.  Westbrook is 4-3 on the season, but carries a lofty 5.17 ERA and 1.57 WHIP.

But over Westbrook's last two starts, both of which were Cardinals victories, the sinker-baller has shown drastic improvement.  Westbrook has  tossed 15 innings over his past two outings, allowing just eight hits, six walks, and one earned run.

Westbrook's recent hot streak on the hill was the exact reason the Cardinals gave him a two year, $16.5 million contract this past off-season.  The club is relying on Westbrook to eat innings, compete, and give the team a chance to win every single night.

Westbrook will take the hill on Friday night in Colorado and will be charged with the hefty task of facing a potent Colorado offense and a talented counterpart in Ubaldo Jimenez.

Westbrook knows that in order to continue the success over his past two starts, he must use the same recipe that has worked so well.

"I'm just being more aggressive," Westbrook said. "Attacking the zone and keeping the ball down. That's the way I have to pitch. Early in the year, I was getting away from that, not being as focused, and it showed. Right now I'm feeling a lot better about the confidence in my sinker and so I'm just going right after guys."
