Cincinnati Reds closer Francisco Cordero hit Cardinals slugging first baseman Albert Pujols with a high, inside fastball. The pitch caught Pujols on the hand and Cardinals fans immediately had of to of had flash backs of David Freese, who was lost for eight to twelve weeks on a similar play earlier this season.
But luckily, Pujols suffered just a bruise and the injury will not require any x-rays unless swelling and pain increase significantly overnight.
The play set off fireworks between the two teams, as after the game Cordero yelled into the Cardinals dugout. But Pujols told Joe Strauss after the game that he did not believe that Cordero was throwing at him intentionally.
Pujols is hitting .266 this season with seven home runs and 24 RBI's.
Cardinals fans can breath again knowing that their slugger is not seriously injured.
