The St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals will play the last game of their three game series at beautiful Kauffman Stadium this afternoon. The annual weekend series has become a fan favorite for both fan bases.
Kansas City fans get a chance to feel as though baseball is relevant in their town. They get to show off what is easily one of the best stadiums in the game of baseball. And to be fair, the Royals are pretty good this season with a 22-23 record.
Meanwhile, St. Louis fans are given an excuse to get off their behinds, cross a couple of rivers for once, and travel to Kansas City to enjoy a couple of Cardinals victories, some BBQ, and some Boulevard brewed adult beverages.
The "I-70" series is enormously popular for the fans. Their really isn't a rivalry on the field or in the stands. It is kind of like an annual family reunion.
But, every year after we watch the Cardinals beat the Royals, we have to wonder if interleague play is good for the game of baseball? Do you like inter-league play?
The topic creates so many opportunities for debate. Baseball purists can argue about the use of the designated hitter, the unbalanced and biased scheduling, and tradition as reasons against the situation.
Others would prefer we play closer teams like the Royals and Twins 15 games a year just like the Cardinals do with the Cubs, Pirates, and Reds. The casual fan would like to see the Cardinals match-up against the New York Yankees or Boston Red Sox.
So, do you like interleague play? Now is your chance to voice your opinion. Vote NOW!
