Fresh off of Friday night's impressive seven inning, 12 strikeout performance for Single A Palm Beach, Shelby Miller has received the call and has been promoted to Double AA Springfield beginning immediately.

Miller, the Cardinals prized first round pick in the 2009 draft, reaches Double AA Springfield before he is legally able to consume adult beverages.  The phenom is just 20 years old.

Miller has been dominant at Palm Beach, posting just a 2-3 record that is supported by an impressive 2.89 ERA and a .204 opponents batting average against.

Opponents have had a tough time making contact off of Miller, who has struck out 81 batters this season in 53 innings.  Most impressive about Miller has been his ability to throw strikes.  The prospect has walked just 20 batters this season.

While Miller is rising up the ranks quickly, most of his success can be attributed to his powerful and electric fastball.  Miller knows that even against tougher competition in Springfield that he will need to develop his off-speed stuff.

"It's not exactly where I want it to be," said Miller. "It's something my pitching coach and I are still working on."

While his off-speed stuff is not where the organization wants it to be, Miller and Cardinals fans  have to be glad the youngster is headed to Springfield.
