Everybody in the St. Louis Cardinals organization was fully aware that the Jake Westbrook who pitched in his first 4 outings of the 2011 season would not be the Jake Westbrook that Cardinals fans would see for the rest of the season.

And Westbrook proved them right with his effort in the Cardinals 3-0 shutout of the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday night.

Westbrook tossed 6 solid innings, allowing just 3 hits, 3 walks, and no runs in helping pace the Cardinals to an important victory over a division rival.

And even more impressive, is that Westbrook was able to have this performance on just 3 days of rest.

Westbrook entered the game with a 1-2 record and a 9.82 ERA and had said earlier in the week that he was ready to be better than he was in his first four starts.

And better is certainly an understatement, as he was outstanding on Sunday night.
