If there is anyone that is thanking St. Louis Cardinals reliever Ryan Franklin these days, it is Jake Westbrook.

Franklin has been so god awful out of the Cardinals bullpen that few have paid attention to how terrible Westbrook has been for the Cardinals starting games this season.

Westbrook will get the nod on Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN as the Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds end their 3 game sweep and St. Louis.

And Westbrook says he is ready to improve upon his 1-2 record and 9.82 ERA.

"I'm excited to get back out there again," he said. "Every time as a starter, good or bad, you want to get back out there. But even more so when you're not pitching very well. You want to get back out there to try to correct yourself and get another opportunity to get back on track. Instead of having to wait so long and think about it and all that stuff. So I'm excited to get back out there."

The Cardinals need Westbrook to put together a solid outing on Sunday.

Not just because the club can use every win they can muster against the division rival Reds, but because their bullpen can desperately use a break.

The bullpen, with some help from the defense, blew yet another lead on Saturday afternoon and can use a break in order to get things back in order.

But Westbrook has not been able to longer than 5 2/3 innings this season.

So, to help the bullpen, get a victory against a division rival, and to right his own ship as he is easily the worst starter in the Cardinals rotation at this point, Westbrook needs a huge night on Sunday.

And it is reassuring to hear that he is ready to deliver.
