Ryan Theriot Joins List Of Injured Cardinals

The injury bug has hit the St. Louis Cardinals hard early in the 2011 season.

Albert Pujols injured his hamstring on Sunday night.  The slugger was out of the lineup on Tuesday night against the Houston Astros.

And so was shortstop Ryan Theriot.

Theriot missed Tuesday's game against the Houston Astros with a rib cage injury.  The shortstop has a .311 average with 8 RBI's in 96 plate appearances this season.

While it was sort of expected for Pujols to miss Tuesday's game, Theriot's injury comes as a bit of surprise.

Pujols and Theriot join a whole parade of Cardinals who have suffered injuries so far in 2011.

Second baseman Skip Schumaker is sidelined with an elbow injury while utility outfielder Allen Craig and reliever Bryan Augenstein are on the disabled list with injured groin muscles.

Left-handed reliever Brian Tallet is also on the disable list with a broke non-throwing arm.

Despite the list of injuries, the Cardinals still are in the mix in the National League Central Division.  But, in order to keep pace, they'll need some of their regulars, especially Pujols, to make it back in the lineup sooner rather than later.
