Rams Select Robert Quinn With 14th Pick

St. Louis Rams fans were expected the team to possibly come away with a defensive lineman.

Many had hoped that the Rams would be able to draft wide receiver Julio Jones out of Alabama, that likelihood was almost impossible considering Jones was drafted with the 6th overall pick on Thursday night.

Others felt that the Rams may be able to land defensive end Aldon Smith out of Mizzou or Corey Liuget out of Illinois.

Instead, the Rams felt fortunate that defensive end Robert Quinn fell to them at pick number 14 and selected the monster out of North Carolina with the 14th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Quinn sat out the entire season in 2010 due to NCAA restriction, but that did not stop Rams general manger Billy Devaney from feeling extremely comfortable with the Rams selection.

"We certainly spent a lot of time evaluating Robert Quinn," Devaney said. "As we got closer to the draft we thought it’d be great if he was there. We really didn’t think there would be much of a chance for him to be there at 14."

And much to Delaney's surprise, he was wrong.

"The grade we had on Quinn was significantly higher than the others in the pool. It was a really easy decision."

The Rams can only hope that Delaney is right as he is taking a risk with a prospect that didn't even play football in 2010.

Quinn was found to have improper dealings with an agent and sat out the entire 2010 season at North Carolina.

Despite not fitting into the "4 pillars" approach applied by head coach Steve Spagnuolo, the Rams are hoping that Quinn turns into an elite pass rusher in the NFL.
