And the youngster promptly rewarded the organization by passing for 3,512 yards and 18 touchdowns while posting a 76.5 passer rating in route to winning the NFL Rookie Offensive Player of the Year Award.
Bradford did all of this in his rookie season without much of a receiving corp to throw to. So, the Rams are trying to give Bradford some new toys to throw the ball to through this year's NFL Draft.
The Rams selected Boise State wide receiver Austin Pettis in the third round of the draft and followed that pick up by selecting another wide receiver, Gregory Salas out of Hawaii, with their fourth round pick. Both wide receivers were selected after the Rams used their second round pick on tight end Lance Kendricks out of Wisconsin.
So, Bradford has plenty of new toys and faces to sling the ball to in 2011.
Pettis is a 6 foot 2 inch wide out who played alongside Titus Young at Boise State. He caught 71 balls for 959 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. Pettis ran a 4.56 40 yard dash at the scouting combine this spring and posted a 33.5 vertical jump.
Salas is a 6 foot 1 inch wide out out of Hawaii who caught 119 balls 1,889 yards and 14 touchdowns last season. Salas ran a 4.53 40 yard dash and had a vertical jump measured at 37.0 inches.
Neither wide receiver is necessarily a speed burner, but both are big bodies for Bradford to throw and can get down field. Salas seems to be especially intriguing as the numbers he posted last season were absolutely impressive.
Both wide receivers are expected to compete for playing time in new offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels high octane offense.
But nobody should be happier than Sam Bradford.
