Lohse tossed 7 shutout innings on Wednesday night, picking up his 4th win of the young season in the St. Louis Cardinals 6-5 victory over the Houston Astros.
Lohse allowed just 4 hits and 1 walk in the while striking out 2 batters and lowering his ERA on the season to 1.64.
But after Lohse left, things got wild once again for the Cardinals bullpen.
Ryan Franklin started the 8th inning and promptly allowed the only two hitters he faced to reach base. Trevor Miller faced just one hitter, walking him on 6 pitches. Finally Fernando Salas came in and got out of the inning with just 3 runs crossing the plate.
And then the 9th inning happened.
A night after Mitchell Boggs blew his first save of the season, manager Tony La Russa gave the ball to youngster Eduardo Sanchez. Sanchez closed the door, but not before allowing 2 runs to score in the 9th inning.
Nothing comes easy for this Cardinals bullpen.
Offensively, the Cardinals were paced by Matt Holliday, who was 3 for 4 with a solo home run and 2 RBI's.
Tyler Greene also hit a solo home run for the Cardinals while Albert Pujols was 1 for 4 with an RBI in his return to the lineup.
The win gives the Cardinals a 13-11 record on the season, including a 7-5 record away from Busch Stadium.
