Former Blues Captain Erik Brewer Playing Well For Tampa Bay in Playoffs

The Tampa Bay Lightning are trailing the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 in their best of 7 series in the first round of the NHL playoffs.

And while the Lightning are having trouble with the ubber-talented Penguins, it is not because of the play of former St. Louis Blues captain Erik Brewer.

The Blues traded their captain and top defense man prior to this season's trading deadline in exchange for a 3rd pick.  And despite trailing in the series, the trade is paying dividends for the Lightning.

Brewer is leading the Lightning in ice time, averaging 25:47 per game and a -1 for the series in plus/minus rating.

But Brewer's major contributions have come offensively for the Lightning, as he is third on the team in points with a goal and 4 assists.

Brewer always showed the skills to be a top notch defender while in St. Louis and obviously carried some clout in the locker room as the team's captain, but he struggled with back injuries in St. Louis and never really reached his potential.

But in Tampa Bay, Brewer looks to be on top of his game and its great to see yet another former Blues player get traded away only to reach their full potential.

  1. I never understood all of the hate for Brewer...

It was not his fault that Larry P. was forced to trade Pronger.
