Evidently, the Jacksonville Jaguars are ready to move forward and forget about David Garrard as their quarterback.

During the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday night, the Jaguars traded up from their 16th spot in the draft in order to take Blaine Gabbert out of Missouri as the 10th overall selection.

While the Jaguars also gave up their second round pick in order to move up and select Gabbert, the evening has to be a bit of a disappointment for the highly touted quarterback prospect.

Gabbert likely enters a situation where he will not immediately start, as David Garrard will return to quarterback the Jaguars.

Falling to the 10th pick in the draft should also be a disappointment for Gabbert, who at one point was predicted to be the top selection by draft expert Mel Kiper Jr.

Gabbert watched fellow quarterbacks Cam Newton and Jake Locker get drafted ahead of him Thursday night, which had to be painful to watch for a quarterback who was though of by many as the top QB prospect in the draft.

Gabbert was not even the first Mizzou player selected in the draft, as former Mizzou defensive lineman Aldon Smith was selected 7th overall by the San Francisco 49ers.

Gabbert was still selected in the first round, which is an accomplishment in its own right.  And evidently, Gabbert is happy to be part of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“Whatever team you got drafted by was the team that wanted you the most, and I’m honored to be a Jaguar."

But landing in Jacksonville and falling to the 10th pick in the draft has to be viewed as disappointment by the Gabbert camp.

One can only hope that the local kid from Balliwn can prove everybody wrong at the NFL level.
