St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Lance Berkman returned to Houston on Tuesday night for the first time since being traded by the Astros last season.

Their was plenty of anticipation and even some hatred spewed by some Astros announcers and faithful fans.  Others were happy to see Berkman "come home."

And despite the build up and pressure, Berkman almost made his homecoming back to Houston a perfect storybook ending.

After a Matt Holliday double to lead off the 9th inning, Berkman stepped to the plate with the score knotted at 4-4.  Berkman then lined a patented line drive, seen many times by Houston fans, to left field that dropped in for a double that scored what would have been the winning run.

Berkman almost knocked in the winning run in his first game back to Houston.

But then new Cardinals closer Mitchell Boggs blew the save in the 9th inning.  It was the first blown save by Boggs in 4 chances.  It was the 5th blown save by Cardinals closers in 2011.

Boggs allowed the tying run to score before recording a single out and then gave up a bases loaded single to Bill Hall, giving the Astros a 6-5 victory and spoiling Berkman's homecoming.

Berkman finished the night 2 for 5 with an RBI.  He managed to raise his average to .378 on the season.

Cardinals starter Jamie Garcia was not very sharp, lasting just 5.1 innings.  Garcia allowed 4 runs, 3 of which were earned, on 6 hits and two walks while striking out 6.

The loss moves the Cardinals record to 12-11 on the season.
