Fomer Mizzou defensive lineman Aldon Smith is an absolute freak.
The 6 foot 4 inch, 263 pound Smith was a monster on the field during his time at Mizzou and plans on being even better at the next level.
The first step on his path to glory in the NFL will occur on Thursday night at the NFL draft.
While college teammate Blaine Gabbert gets most of the publicity, Smith is also a very highly rated prospect. Experts have Smith pegged as a middle of the first round type of prospect and he honestly could come off the board at any point after the 8th pick.
The lineman played in 10 games last season at Mizzou, recording 48 tackles, 5.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and an impressive interception.
Scouts love how raw and gifted Smith is. He still has room to grow into his body and clearly hasn't developed all the skills necessary to be a monster at the NFL level.
Other scouts are scared by the very same thing that makes Smith so attractive, his absolute raw ability. Its something that Smith knows will affect where he gets drafted.
“I’m still really raw,” Smith told the Columbia Tribune. “But I have so much more to learn.”
And while Smith clearly speaks the proper words in order to help NFL teams get over any apprehension they may have about selecting him, Smith knows that the only thing he can control on Thursday night is what he will wear.
“You know me, man, I don’t like to be too flashy,” Smith said. “I’ll get some looks, but I don’t want everyone to have to pause.”
Whoever drafts Smith on Thursday night will be planning on looking at him as a dominant force on their defensive line for years to come.
