Sycamores Bow Out of NCAA Tourney

When Indiana State was announced as a 14th seed in the NCAA Tournament and was scheduled to play Big East power Syracuse in the first round, Sycamore and Valley fans knew it could be a rough night.

And while Syracuse came away with 17 point victory, the game was actually much closer than the 77-60 final score.

The Orangemen were just too big, too tall, and too strong for the feisty Sycamores to contend with.

"We just weren't quite aggressive enough," Indiana State coach Greg Lansing said. "That has everything to do with the Syracuse defense."

But that didn't stop Larry Bird University from putting up a valiant fight.

Syracuse jumped out to a 25-11 with 10 minutes gone in the first half, but the Sycamores fought back to make it just an 8 point game at halftime.

Indiana State closed the gap to 4 on a pair of Jake Odum free throws 15:56 remaining in the second half, but the Orange pushed it in another gear pulling away for the victory.

Odum wowed the national audience though with no-look passes, dishing out 6 flashy assists.

Sycamore guard Jake Kelly came off the bench to lead the team in scoring with 12 points in a losing effort.

Indiana State, the lone participant from the Valley in the NCAA Tournament, finished the season with a 20-14 record.
