Colby Rasmus has to be among the most intriguing players in all of Major League baseball.

The enigmatic third your sensation has as much talent as any outfielder in either league.  But he tends to fall in lapses that can last months.  And there is always the conflicts that arise with the Cardinals manager.

Rasmus is hoping to make 2011 better than his first two season.

And by the looks of the way he swung the bat on Thursday, he's on the right track.

Rasmus belted his second home run of the spring as the Cardinals lost to the Florida Marlins 5-2.

Jake Westbrook made the start for the Cardinals and labored through 5 innings, allowing 9 hits and 4 runs to the pesky and youthful Florida Marlins.

Westbrook, who is likely penciled in the second slot in the rotation, felt that his afternoon was productive even though the results aren't necessarily what he desired.

"I felt good. I didn't make any pitches when I needed to," Westbrook said. "A lot of two out hits for RBIs, that was the difference in the game."

Meanwhile, Matt Carpenter continued his bid for a roster spot today, contributing two hits out of the lead off spot.

Albert Pujols and David Freese were both 0 for 3.
