Fernando Salas, Stavinoha Cut By Cardinals

Fernando Salas has been having a ridiculously good spring training for the St. Louis Cardinals.

The 25 year old reliever was shuttled up and down Highway 55 repeatedly in 2010 as the Cardinals called on his services from AAA Memphis on numerous occasions.

Many figured that if Salas had a good spring, he would be a lock to make the ball club as an integral part of the bullpen.

Evidently a 0.73 in 12.1 innings with just 4 hits allowed in 10 appearances was not good enough for manager Tony La Russa to include Salas on the major league roster for opening day.

Salas and utility slugger Nick Stavinoha were optioned to AAA Memphis on Monday.
