In 2009 Adam Wainwright finished third in the National League Cy Young Award voting.
In 2010, Wainwright finished second.
So, for 2011, the next logical place for Wainwright to end up in the ballot is as the award winner.
And Wainwright has been working hard to try and make himself one of the best pitchers in all of baseball.
"You think Roy Halladay. You think Felix Hernandez," Wainwright told St. Louis Post-Dispatch writer Derrick Goold. "I want to be one of those guys."
While Wainwright has positioned himself as one of the top pitchers in all of major league baseball, he isn't quite satisfied.
And while personal accomplishments like the 20 wins he posted in 2010 are great, he knows that the ultimate goal is helping the Cardinals make it back to the post season.
"I win 20 games and we didn't go to the postseason. We didn't go to the World Series. I didn't win any personal awards for it. That means there's got to be something more I have to do, there's something I can do better."
Nope. Just go out there and be a bulldog. Just like you have been the past two seasons.
And let other people take care of the rest.
