Mizzou fell behind early 10-0 and despite only being down by 3 points at half time, it never really felt like the Tigers had any momentum.
"They started off with a tremendous run in a game where emotions are going to run sky-high," Missouri coach Mike Anderson said. "I thought our guys did a good job of settling in and getting back to the things that we came on the road to do in terms of execution of our offense and defense. When you go into halftime down by three points, you feel pretty good about your team."
Feeling pretty good and playing pretty good are two different things.
Marcus Denmon scored a team high 22 points on Saturday, but he knows that Mizzou made too many mistakes in order to win such an important game.
"They made plays down the stretch," Denmon said. "We were in our zone defense when it was tied 60-60. It was a credit to them. We had a lot of mental mistakes as a team. We did a lot of things that you can't do on the road."
The game had NCAA tournament implications because now Kansas State and Mizzou are tied with identical 8-6 Big 12 records.
The victory seems to put Kansas State in a solid position to make the tournament.
Mizzou still looks to be in good shape as well, but could be in a bit of trouble if they lose their remaining games. The Tigers host Kansas and travel to Nebraska and both games will be tough contests.
If Mizzou loses both games and loses in the first round of the conference tournament, despite having 22 wins on the season, things could get very interesting for the Tigers.
Laurence Bowers played well for Mizzou on Saturday, scoring 16 points and pulling down 9 rebounds. Michael Dixon chipped in 10 points off the bench.

Even though the Missouri Tigers pulled off a victory last weekend on the road against Iowa State, they still are not a good road team.
That was evident once again today, as Mizzou lost to Kansas State 80-70 in a pivotal Big 12 contest that has NCAA tournament implications.
"They started off with a tremendous run in a game where emotions are going to run sky-high," Missouri coach Mike Anderson said.
