Steven Jackson didn't make it to the NFL Pro Bowl in 2011 alone.
Sure "Action Jackson" is among the best running backs in the league and is a great talent. But he had help from some friends.
And one of those friends is not going to be a part of the St. Louis Rams in 2011.
Today, the Rams announced that they were releasing fullback Mike Karney, Jackson's lead blocker in the power running game.
The move signals that offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is going to gear the offense towards the talents of NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Sam Bradford.
"You know in this league, it's no secret, it all starts with the quarterback," Karney told Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "Every team is quarterback driven, and they have a great young talent in Sam and they need to build around that."
Karney has played 7 seasons in the NFL, the past two with the Rams.
In 2010 Karney ran the ball 6 times for a total of 12 yards and caught just 5 passes for 14 yards and zero touchdowns.
Karney's lack of versatility in the passing game is what likely did him in because there is no question he is a great lead blocker.
"That's the business. It's tough for me in my position, but I'm not going to kick or scream or yell," Karney said. "What can you do? You've just got to take the experiences and what you've learned from 'em and move on."
Karney will be missed in St. Louis by Rams fans as his bulldog mentality is easy to like.
But Steven Jackson will likely miss him more.

One of SJ39 best friends on the team too.
