In case you were born in a barn or haven't had any source of electricity at this point, you know that Albert Pujols self-imposed contract deadline is approaching.

Originally scheduled to be Tuesday, the St. Louis Cardinals and Pujols have agreed to push the deadline to Wednesday.

"One of the things we wanted to make sure is, tomorrow's a very big day for Stan Musial," general manager John Mozeliak told Matthew Leach on Monday morning. "And it wouldn't make any sense to have a large distraction for that special day, given the amount of respect we have for that man. So it only makes sense to make sure we weren't trying to have a lot of things going on, given what's happening tomorrow in Washington."

Stan Musial will be receiving his Medal of Freedom from President Obama on Tuesday.

But it doesn't look like Albert Pujols will be receiving his contract extension until Wednesday.

And even that doesn't look so promising.

"I don't want to sit here and lead people on or characterize something one way or the other," Mozeliak said. "Our approach has been pretty consistent since Day 1, and that's really to allow this to be done in a confidential state. Given that we're only 48 hours away from the deadline, I'll remain that way."

Tuesday will be a great day for Cardinals fans as Musial receives his Medal of Freedom.

Wednesday could be one of the most epic disappointments for Cardinals fans if Pujols doesn't receive his contract.

  1. I have heard enough about this deadline...

If you Cardinals offer Pujols a 10 year 350 million dollar contract in the middle of July....is he not going to take it because it is past the "deadline"
