But the former Missouri Tigers quarterback did run at the combine and he may have been faster than most expected.
Gabbert posted a time of 4.61 in the 40 yard dash, an impressive showing for the quarterback known more for his arm strength.
Gabbert, who is currently rated 6th on Scout Inc's draft board and first among all quarterbacks, was hoping to show NFL scouts that his mobility is a good reason to take him as the first quarterback drafted.
Gabbert did rush for 252 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2010 at Mizzou.
Gabbert made head lines with a subtle jab at Cam Newton's comments earlier in the week regarding Newton's aspirations to be an "entertainer" and "icon."
"The best thing about me is I love the game of football," Gabbert said. "That's been my goal — to only do football. I'm going to be in the film room, going to be in the weight room, preparing as hard as possible."
It will be interesting to see where Gabbert is on the draft boards in relation to the other quarterbacks after the combine.
