Former St. Louis Cardinals infielders Felipe Lopez and Pedro Feliz have signed minor league contracts, hoping to extend their careers and make another MLB roster.
Lopez signed a minor league deal with the Tampa Bay Rays, joining veterans Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon on a re-vamped Tampa ball club that will enter the 2011 without stallwarts Carl Crawford and Carlos Pena, both of whom left via free agency.
Despite only receiving a minor league deal, Lopez told ESPNDeportes.com that he was excited for an opportunity in Tampa. He makes his home in Orlando, Florida.
"I think I'll have a great opportunity to make the team, and it will be exciting to play near my home."
Lopez played in 109 games for the Cardinals in 2010, hitting .231 with 7 home runs and 36 RBI's while playing out of position at third base.
Feliz on the other hand will not be joining a playoff team from a year ago as he has agreed in principal to a minor league contract with the Kansas City Royals.
Feliz hit .208 with 1 home run and 9 RBI's in 40 games with St. Louis in 2010.
