Sources close to the negotiations between the St. Louis Cardinals and Albert Pujols are reporting that Pujols plans to report to spring training on February 16th.
Which means, the owner Bill Dewitt and general manager John Mozeliak have just one week to get a long term contract in place.
Furthermore, Jon Heyman of SI.com is reporting that the two sides are so far apart in both years and money and has written that there is "virtually no chance" that the two sides will reach an agreement in the next 7 days.
A process that seems like a no-brainer for both sides continues to baffle Cardinals fans and St. Louis media. You would think after 10 seasons together that the two sides would do everything they could to help each other as much as possible.
But it sounds like the opposite is happening.
The next seven days could be as volatile for Cardinal Nation as a 30 minute episode of "Jersey Shore".
And just like "Jersey Shore" you better believe everyone in Major League Baseball will be watching.

What is your gut feeling?
ReplyDeleteI say that a deal will not be done in the next 7 days.

I agree with you. If there isn't a deal at this point, what is going to change in the next 7 days.... Its a shame
ReplyDeleteI still think he will be a Cardinal....I just do not see a deal taking shape in the next 7 days..
ReplyDeleteWho knows how it will play out after that.

If Pujols isn't signed by next week, he won't be a Cardinal. He'll be long gone into the free agent sunset.
ReplyDeleteWhy would he want to stay after this season when we have had every opportunity to sign him to an extension the past 6 seasons?
