Ben Bishop has been waiting patiently for his opportunity for a long time.
After playing horribly during a 5-3 loss to Chicago earlier this week, Bishop needed a performance to redeem himself. And to also help the team win.
He came, notching his first career shutout in the St. Louis Blues 5-0 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Friday night.
Bishop certainly left quite an impression on his coach with his play.
"He made a great statement tonight," Blues coach Davis Payne told Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "Obviously with Jaro out ... it’s a very good statement for him. He’s a young guy who we expect a lot of now and in the future, and it was another great step for him tonight.”
Bishop was unbelievable in the pipes, stopping all 39 Edmonton shots.
Not only was this game important for Bishop to redeem himself, but it was a very important win for the Blues. Despite all of their struggles, the Blues are just 5 points outside of a playoff spot.
Bishop wasn't the only star on Friday, as newcomer Chris Stewart netted two more goals and Patrik Berglund scored his 18th goal of the season.
The Blues crazy string of games resumes on Sunday when they travel to Calgary to take on the Flames at the Saddledome.
