David Backes has been exceptional for the St. Louis Blues this season and one of the few bright spots on a team that currently sits in 13th place in the Western Conference Standings with 57 points.
Backes is the Blues leading scorer this season with 20 goals and 41 points on the season.
But after the Blues disappointing 3-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Saturday night, Backes tried his hand at fighting.
He got pummelled.
Minnesota's Clayton Stoner got the best of Backes in a one-sided tussle that happened after regulation had ended.
"He was agitating all game," Stoner said. "Good for him. He was playing hard, but at the same time we've got stand up for ourselves and I think we did a good job throughout the whole game."
Stoner certainly stood up for himself.
But what is most concerning is that the Blues leader got pummelled the way he did after losing a must-win game.
With Backes going down in a bloody mess and with the forward being the team's most talented leader, it almost feels like the Blues are done.
The rest of the season may be a mess too.
