"There is probably a connection between the ligament being compromised to now," Mozeliak said. "Obviously, he's pitched very successfully between (2004) and now. I guess at some point it's just a matter of time."
6 years.
That is how long Adam Wainwright has been one of the best pitcher's in baseball with an injured elbow. He has finished 2nd and 3rd the past two seasons in the Cy Young award voting.
And now, POOF!
He's on the shelf for likely all of 2011.
While there certainly were things the incoherent Cardinals medical staff could have done over the last 6 years to fix the injury prior to Wainwright's ulnar ligament busting on Monday, this sudden disappearance of the staff ace should teach us a valuable lesson.
DO NOT GIVE ALBERT PUJOLS A 10 YEAR, $300 MILLION CONTRACT!!!!
PERIOD.
Like Wainwright, Pujols has been playing with a serious elbow injury for much of the past 3 seasons.
The right elbow of Albert Pujols could bust at any point.
And the Cardinals can not give Albert the contract he is asking for.
Wainwright's devastating elbow injury could paralyze the Cardinals season in 2011.
Another elbow injury of a slugging first baseman getting paid $300 million would paralyze the Cardinals franchise forever.
