The St. Louis Cardinals have no trouble filling up Busch Stadium almost each and every game. The team sold well over 3 million tickets in 2010.
The St. Louis Blues have seemed to figure it out as well, selling out every single game this season despite being in 13th place in the Western Conference and on track to miss the playoffs again.
And then there are the St. Louis Rams.
The Rams sold out every game in the 2010, but it wasn't without the help of Fox 2 purchasing some last minute tickets and the organization itself buying its own tickets in order to do so.
So what sort of explanation can the Rams give for announcing over the weekend that the team will raise ticket prices?
If the team can't even fill up the Edward Jones Dome with St. Louis fans wearing Blue and Gold, why raise prices?
Is the organization trying to profit as Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers fans fill the dome with seats that local Rams fans refuse to buy?
Are the Rams being greedy, watching the popularity of their star quarterback Sam Bradford grow among the local fandom?
Raising ticket prices often needs to be done and is warranted.
Nobody will complain if the Cardinals raise ticket prices slightly in order to help pay for a manageable Albert Pujols contract extension.
But raising prices when you can't even fill the dome is just stupid.
And raising prices for a NFL season that may not even happen because of a collective bargaining disagreement started by greedy owners won't put people in the seats at the dome any faster either.
The Rams are wrong for doing this. They'll wonder why they can not attract top free agents this off-season.
They'll also wonder the Edward Jones Dome is empty once again in 2011.
