The 14th ranked Missouri Tigers desperately needed to protect their home floor on Saturday night against the Iowa State Cyclones.
After watching Texas move to 4-0 after grabbing a solid road victory at previously undefeated Kansas, every win, especially at home, counts in the competitive Big 12.
Mizzou was able to improve to 3-2 in Big 12 play after shellacking the Cyclones 87-54 in front of 15,061 screaming fans at Mizzou Arena.
Head coach Mike Anderson knew that defending the home court is paramount in order to keep up.
"I think depth is quality no matter where you go or who you play. You got to come with it," Anderson said this week. "It seems like everyone is defending their home turf. I think the league is the most competitive it's been since I've been in it. And I'm talking about top to bottom."
The Tigers led 48-26 at halftime and never looked back as they dominated the Cyclones defensively, forcing 19 turnovers and blocking 9 shots.
5 players scored in double figures for the Tigers, led by Michael Dixon's 15 points and Ricardo Ratliffe's 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 blocked shots.
The Tigers next travel to Austin, Texas to take on the 10th ranked Texas Longhorns next Saturday.
