The struggles between St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa and Colby Rasmus were well documented in the media last season.
Both are ready to move on and both seem to have learned from the experience.
Rasmus in particular looks to be more mature.
"It was a learning experience to do better for this year," Rasmus said. "Take all that in and not let any of that other stuff affect anything. I can't change what happened. I can't change what I did. So just use (the experience) for this year."
Hopefully his play on the field will become more mature as well.
Rasmus hit .273 with 23 home runs and .361 on base percentage in 2010.
But, he only managed to knock in 66 runs and struck out 148 times, or 28% of the time he came to the plate.
LaRussa will be looking for Rasmus to be more mature on the field as well. He'll need Rasmus to be more dependable at the plate, strike out less, and take more walks, especially if the manager is hoping Rasmus can fill the gaping hold in the second spot in the lineup.
If Rasmus truly has matured, it can't do anything but help a relationship that LaRussa says isn't really all that bad anyway.
"We have a good relationship," LaRussa said. "Good to real good. At its worst, it's good. At its best, it's real good."
The Cardinals will need this relationship to be good and for Colby to be more mature at the plate and in the clubhouse if the Cardinals are going to thrive in 2011.
