Lohse Ready To Make Impact as Number 5 Starter

Kyle Lohse is hoping Barry Weinberg doesn't have any reasons to visit
him on the mound during 2011.
In 2008 Kyle Lohse was one sick puppy on the mound for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Lohse was 15-6 with a 3.78 ERA in 2008 and was promptly rewarded with a 4 year, $40 million contract.  The Cardinals were drawn to Lohse's ability to be consistent.

Lohse has been consistent since signing the contract.  Consistently bad when on the mound and consistently in the training room with injuries.

Lohse says that those days are behind and he is ready to be the pitcher the Cardinals gave a big contract to after that 2008 season.

"The way my offseason has gone, in my mind, I've alleviated a lot of the questions about is this still going to be an issue. I'm just looking forward to moving on and getting back to being healthy," Lohse told MLB.com's Matthew Leach.

If Lohse is healthy, the Cardinals are in a good position because no longer is Lohse the third best option that manager Tony LaRussa can run out to take the bump.

After signing Jake Westbrook to an extension and with the emergence of of second year left-hander Jamie Garcia, Lohse can be relied upon to be the team's fifth starter and do what he has done best throughout most of his career; eat innings and give the team a chance to win.

Having Lohse anchoring the back end of a very talented rotation is something that has Westbrook extremely excited.

"I'm excited about it," Westbrook said. "You've got Carp and Wainwright leading the way. Having those two guys, and the season that Jaime had last year, for the two months I was here was fun to watch. Hopefully Loshie continues to bounce back, and we can have a very formidable staff."

Cardinals fans should be excited too as we could be looking at the second best rotation in all of baseball.
