Cubs Angry With Theriot

When Ryan Theriot arrived in St. Louis, he was happy to be putting on Cardinal red.

"Finally on the right side," Theriot said.

Theriot also reflected on how the Cubs approached each season.  Evidently winning the World Series wasn't a goal.

"It was almost an afterthought," he said. "It really wasn't talked about too much. It was like an unattainable goal. And now, being here with an organization like this, it's right there for the taking."

Theriot made these comments back in November.  Of course it took the Cubs two months to come up with a witty response.  They are letting it known that they are not too fond of their former teammate.

"There's probably a decent chance he's going to feel how hard the dirt is around the home-plate batters' box," Cubs catcher Koyie Hill said. "At least once, maybe once an at-bat. I don't know how long it's going to take. I want to get an apology out of him, and until the whole team, the whole organization kind of feels satisfied …"

Even the Cubs new manager Mike Quade had a delayed response to the Theriot comments, "Hopefully we can make him pay."

The key word in that statement is "hopefully" as it seems the Cubs are not even confident that they can knock down Theriot.

It looks like the Cubs are finding motivation from their former shortstop, who was among fan favorites at the friendly confines of Wrigley Field.

There is only one problem with the Cubs being so fired up.  Its only January.

At least Carlos Zambrano got one thing right when he made one of his brilliant remarks.

"He's the enemy now."  Nicely done Carlos.  Therapy seems to be working well.

I'm sure Theriot will have no problem leaning into one of Zambrano's new 86 mph fastballs.

Its great to be a Cardinal fan.
