Columbus Blasts Blues 5-2 At Scottrade

Coming into Saturday night's game with the Columbus Blue Jackets the St. Louis Blues had a two point advantage in the Western Conference standings.

After the game, the two squads are now dead even.

In front of a 26th consecutive sell-out at the Scottrade Center, the contest started off promising for the Blues with goals by Eric Brewer and Patrik Berglund early in the first period to give St. Louis a 2-0 lead.

It all went downhill from there as the Blue Jackets rattled off five consecutive goals to defeat the Blues 5-2 and move into a tie in the Western Conference standings.

"We came out and established our game," said St. Louis coach Davis Payne. "Then all of a sudden we decided to re-define ourselves. We were never able to stop the downhill slide."

The Blues were only able to muster 12 shots in the final two periods and were totally dominated by the visiting Blue Jackets.

"It was a lack of attention to detail," added Payne. "Inexcusable."

Berglund's goal was his third in as many games.

Blues forward Alex Steen assisted on both Blues goals, making it 7 games in a row in which Steen has tallied a point.

Jaroslav Halak stopped 25 of the 29 shots that Columbus fired at him.
