Blues Comeback Falls Short in 4-3 Overtime Loss To Detroit

The Scottrade Center in St. Louis was somber as the home town team had fallen behind the division leading Detroit Red Wings 3-0.

Then, Blues forward T.J. Oshie woke the building up with his first goal since returning from injury to help lead a tremendous comeback.

It was a comeback that earned the Blues a point as they forced overtime but lost 4-3 to the Detroit Red Wings.

After Oshie's initial goal in the second period to bring the Blues within two, forward Patrik Berglund scored his second goal in successive games to pull the Blues within one.  Then with 5:46 remaining in the 3rd period David Backes banged in a rebound for his 15th goal of the season to knot the score.

Even with the miraculous comeback it took possibly the save of the year by Jaroslav Halak to force overtime.

With under a minute to go, Halak was caught out of position when a Wings forward put a weak shot on the empty net.  Halak threw his leg out and kicked the puck out of the net.

Blues forward Alex Steen extended his consecutive games with a point streak to 6 by assisting on the Backes goal.  Berglund also added an assist.

Halak stopped 25 of the 29 shots he faced from the relentless Red Wings.

The Blues next face off against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday in St. Louis.
