Backes Named All-Star

David Backes has accomplished plenty in the past 12 months. 

Last winter Backes represented Team U.S.A. in the Olympics played in Vancouver, Canada and was a vital part in the team's silver medal finish.

Now, in his 4th season in the NHL, David Backes of the St. Louis Blues has been added to the NHL All-Star team. 

Backes, one of the Blues unquestioned leaders, has notched 12 goals and 21 assists thus far this season. 

While his stats aren't among the league leaders, his importance to the Blues and his development as an overall player are a big reason why general manager Doug Armstrong believes Backes was named to the team.

"I think it's obviously a great honor for David and well deserved," Armstrong said.

 

"When you look at David, you see the potential for the full package.  He's got size and strength and the ability to play the game at many different levels. He's got speed and skill, and if you want to get heavy and play in the trenches he has the ability to do that, too --and he can fight."

Backes will look to continue his all-star play on Wednesday night as the Blues take on the Anaheim Ducks in California.
