St. Louis Blues' season comes to an end in 2-1 loss in Game 6

0.2 seconds left. The St. Louis Blues and Los Angeles Kings were just 0.2 seconds away from playing an overtime period in Game 6 of the Western Conference quarterfinals Friday night in Los Angeles.

Instead, the Kings took a 2-1 lead with 0.2 seconds left in the second period as Dustin Penner ripped one off the crossbar as that was the game winner, the Kings are moving on to the Western Conference semifinals with a 4-2 series win over the Blues.

The Kings have won their fifth consecutive postseason series and are now looking to repeat as Stanley Cup Champions.

This is how close the series has been between the Blues and Kings. Every game in this series has been decided by one goal, and in a game where the Blues were facing elimination, less than a second has decided the outcome of this series.

Once again, the Blues had so many chances and really outplayed the Kings the whole entire game, but it was all for not as the Kings won their fourth straight game of the series to ruin the Blues' chances of their first ever Stanley Cup Championship.

In a series dominated by the outstanding goal-tending efforts between Jonathan Quick and Brian Elliott, once again Quick and Elliott battled through a tough Game 6 as this exhilarating series from both teams came to an end. Jonathan Quick was the first star of the game stopping 22 shots. Brian Elliott on the other hand stopped 14 shots, and one of the shots he would most certainly have back with just 0.2 seconds left to spare. It has been a rough couple of games from Elliott as he allowed the overtime winner in Game 5 as Slava Voynov gave the Kings a 3-2 series lead back in St. Louis.

The Kings got on the board in the first period to take a 1-0 lead with a goal from Drew Doughty, his first goal of the postseason, 12:37 into the first period. The Blues found life as Chris Porter scored with 4:39 into the second period tying the game at one a piece. Dustin Penner put the game away with 0.2 seconds left in the second period to derail the Blues chances.

How do you come back after a goal like that? Well the Blues had their fare share of chances, most notably  a wide open chance from Patrik Berglund, but it is just safe to say the Blues have been unlucky in the later stages of this series.

With the Blues leading this series 2-0, the season has came to a painful end losing four straight as they now head into the offseason looking for answers. The season has now come to a wrap for the Blues, with some highs, and certainly some lows. We'll see the Blues next year in October as they now are still looking for their first elusive Stanley Cup Championship as St. Louis is most certainly getting back to their hockey flavor under head coach Ken Hitchcock. The great sports city of St. Louis now will look forward to Cardinals Baseball, which is definitely not a bad thing to look forward to.
