The St. Louis Blues are on the brink of elimination tonight in Game 6 of the Western Conference quarterfinals against the defending Stanley Cup Champions, the Los Angeles Kings. After the Blues took an early 2-0 series lead, the Kings showed why they are defending Stanley Cup Champions and have won three straight games to take a 3-2 series lead. The Kings also swept the Blues in the Western Conference semifinals last year.
The Kings defeated the Blues in overtime 3-2, Game 5 in St. Louis to take a 3-2 series lead. The Kings are the first road team to win a game in this series. Despite three straight losses, head coach Ken Hitchcock has liked the way the Blues have played, especially Game 5. "That was our best effort of the year collectively", Hitchcock said. "We played a hell of a hockey game and if we play like that again I like our chances."
Every game in this series has been decided by one goal, including two overtime games as Jonathan Quick and Brian Elliott face off again tonight, in what could be the last game of the season for the Blues. After allowing the overtime goal in Game 5 Wednesday night, Brian Elliott is ready to shake it off and rebound in Game 6.
The Kings look to advance to the Western Conference semifinals tonight meanwhile the Blues look to force a Game 7 Monday night heading back to St. Louis. The puck drops tonight at 9 CT in Los Angeles and the game can be seen on FS Midwest or NBC Sports Network.
