While Reaves is certainly more than just a fighter, he can, and will, oblige and fight the best of them in the league when the opportunity arises. While Sunday night's battle was not against one of the heavyweights of the league, Reaves showed why many opponents simply do not mess with him.
After Blues' veteran forward Andy McDonald took a huge hit from Vancouver Canucks forward Aaron Volpatti during the Blues' 4-3 shootout victory, Reaves decided he needed to stick up for McDonald and told Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that it is his job to protect his teammates.
"I think that's just kind of my job to step up and let him now that it's not going to be unrecognized. Luckily he obliged. I've got to protect my player and get the boys going a little bit."
Reaves certainly got the haymakers going, as you can see in the video below. According to votes on hockeyfights.com, Reaves won this one easily by a wide margin.
