Mizzou will start their much hyped inaugural SEC season next week when they host the highly touted Georgia Bulldogs.
Saturday's win was an easy one over an obvious cupcake in the opener.
Yet despite the fact that their first true SEC test is still a week away, Mizzou players are already talking about how they are being overlooked in their new conference.
Mizzou defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson suggested the Tigers will be hard to beat.
"If we execute, nobody in this league can touch us. Period.," Richardson said. "They make it seem like we came from the WAC or something, like we ain't played against Oklahoma ... and everybody else that also wins national championships."
"It's about that time we show them who we are."
Mizzou is obviously a confident group and is coming into the SEC with a swagger. That confidence was also on display during the SEC media week, where wide receiver T.J. Moe lit up the room with some of his quotes.
But Richardson's comments feel a little bit out of place. Mizzou just beat a very weak team and have a huge test next week with Georgia. Mizzou does not need Georgia or any other SEC school to have any extra motivation when they visit Columbia.
One thing is for certain about Richardson's comments. He won't have to wait long to back them up.
Everyone will learn a lot about how Mizzou will fit in the SEC next week when they take on Georgia under the lights at Faurot Field.
