Beal is currently taking part in the Wizards mini-camp as the team gets ready to participate in the Las Vegas Summer League.
Meanwhile, Team USA, led by LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, is already in Las Vegas, practicing and getting ready for the Summer Olympics in London.
While Beal and Team USA are currently in two completely different spots, recent comments from USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo could signal that Beal may be in Team USA's plans in the not so very distant future.
“Beal is a terrific player and has a great future, a bright future, I feel, as far as the NBA, and we’ve got our antennae up on all these young players that are coming up the pike. If Beal gets off to a good start, we’ll be watching him as he comes into the league and his name is on the board.”
Beal has been compared to Ray Allen and Eric Gordon and many believe his game translates very, very well to the NBA.
But watching Beal play throughout high school at Chaminade and during his freshman season at Florida, Beal's game also translates to international play as well.
Beal is the type of player who does not need the ball to make things happen. He is fundamentally sound, can make quick decisions, can shoot from the outside, and is a superior athlete. Beal is exactly the type of player Team USA will need as the rest of the World continues to catch-up to the United States in basketball.
Beal may not be ready for Team USA right now. In fact, the kid from St. Louis has a lot to prove in the NBA first. But it is hard not to get excited for a kid from the area who has so much potential and is likely to fulfill every ounce of it.
