Ryan Theriot Slams Wardrobes At Busch Stadium

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Ryan Theriot got himself in a little bit of trouble this past off-season with Cubs fans.  After Theriot signed with the Cardinals, Theriot was quoted as saying "finally on the right side" of the Cardinals and Cubs bitter rivalry.

On Tuesday morning, Theriot was talking again. And this time, it was about his current St. Louis Cardinals fans.

Theriot appeared on a Chicago sports-talk radio show on ESPN 100 on Tuesday morning.  The radio DJ's predictably slammed how Cardinals fans dress at Busch Stadium.

And Theriot did not hesitate on chiming in.

"Tank tops, jean shorts and some Timberland boots," Theriot said before laughing with the Chicago radio hosts.

Listen to Theriot's remarks here.

Whoa, Mr. Theriot.  Sure you say some nice things about your teammates and about manager Tony La Russa, but what are you thinking bashing Cardinals fans?  Why are you trying to make Cardinals fans upset?

I realize that your return to Chicago is nerve racking and you are trying to make as many friends as possible after your remarks last winter.

But do not go bashing Cardinals fans.  These are the same fans that have supported you despite your defensive inefficiencies.

Sure some are unhappy with your inability to make routine plays and with the fact that you have committed eight errors this season.  We do our best to try and not point out that your eight errors are tied for the most by any shortstop in baseball.  We don't bash you for using a frying pan as a glove.

So what's up?  Why the cheap shot?

Ryan Franklin bashed Cardinals fans earlier this season for booing some of his pathetic performances early in the season.  Do you really want to put yourself in the same position as Ryan Franklin?

Maybe Cardinals fans wear some weird stuff to games at Busch Stadium.  I don't see it.  I generally see a "sea of red" and a scattering of Pujols jerseys.

But you can't tell me the wardrobes of Cardinals fans really bother you that much?  Especially after you have spent a majority of your career playing in that dump hole in Chicago.  Do you enjoy having unemployed drunks speaking broken English screaming non-sense at you for nine innings?  Do you wish you were still playing in front of dumbest fans in baseball?  Do you really wish, deep down inside, that you were still a member of the "lovable losers?"

I hope not, espeically since you are the exact type of player that Cardinals generally adore.  But you can likely throw that out the window since it is so easy for you to forget, when you talk to radio hosts who are overweight from shoving too many deep dish pizzas in their loud mouth, that you wear a Cardinals uniform now.

This week's series in Chicago surely is not going to be easy for Theriot.  But when he returns to Busch Stadium to play in front of the home crowd next week, those fans in those "tank tops and Timberland boots" likely won't be yelling nice things at Ryan Theriot any longer.

  1. Aw cmon, lighten up. It was kinda funny. Not to knock my fellow Redbird junkies (bless their hearts) but if you saw some of us at the Cardinals Caravans, you'd totally agree (and any one of them would say I get a pass for saying 'bless their hearts'. Welcome to the MidWest). And I'm 100% absolutely certain he was joking, and why? He played at LSU... LSU. Trust me. He's seen worse.

  3. I can almost agree also with Theriot.....This is exactly what I would wear to Cards games when I went, minus the Timberlands (too expensive) I would just wear my dirty ole regular wal-mart workboots.
But hey, it isn't the way you dress to go to games, it's how ya' root for the home team....
    GO CARDS.....GO CARDS......
