Kyle McClellan entered Saturday afternoon's game with the division rival Cincinnati Reds with a 5-0 record and was making many Cardinals fans forget about the elbow injury to ace Adam Wainwright.

And then the Reds blasted McClellan for four runs on seven hits and three walks, giving McClellan his first loss of the season in the 7-3 romping.

McClellan fell victim to the long ball, giving up solo home runs to Brandon Phillips and two to reds catcher Ramon Hernandez.

McClellan acknowledged that the Reds did a good job against him.

"In that ballpark, you get the ball in the air, you're going to be in trouble," McClellan said. "I feel like that team, when they play at that park, they do a good job of getting the ball in the air. I'm going to be aggressive. I'm going to try to throw strikes early in the count. I did it, and I got burned on a couple of them that weren't good enough pitches."

The Reds had built a 5-0 lead before the Cardinals finally got on the board in the seventh inning when Jon Jay blasted a Johnny Cueto fastball into the season for a three run home run.  It was Jay's third home run of the season in just 45 at bats.

The rest of the Cardinals offense was dormant, only accumulating four hits on the afternoon against the Reds pitching staff.

The loss puts the Cardinal a half game behind the Reds in the National League Central Division standings.  The Cardinals can regain first place with a win tomorrow behind ace Chris Carpenter.
