Bears Hire Paul Lusk

Cuonzo Martin left the sidelines at Purdue to become the head coach at Missouri State three years ago.

Last week Martin left after a 26-9 season to take a position at Tennessee.

As his replacement, the Bears have looked at the Purdue sidelines once again to hire Boilermakers assistant coach Paul Lusk as the new coach of the Missouri State program.

It is believed that Lusk will be signing a 5 year agreement to coach the Bears, although the exact terms have not been disclosed at this time.

Lusk has been an assistant at Purdue since the 2004-2005 season, but hasn't spend his entire career at Purdue.

Prior to joining Matt Painter on the sidelines in West Lafayette, Lusk was an assistant at Missouri Southern State, so he is familiar with the area.

Missouri State athletic director Kyle Moats is obviously excited about the hire.

"Paul is a quality person, an excellent coach and will be a tremendous addition to Missouri State," Moats said. "He is a proven winner and has had success at every level. I know our fans will embrace Paul and his family."

Lusk has quite a challenge in front of him as 4 senior starters depart the Missouri Valley regular season championship club.

But if Lusk is as successful as the last assistant to leave Purdue for Springfield, MO, Bears fans should have little to worry about.
