Wichita State Destroys Nebraska in NIT

The Missouri Valley Conference caught a lot of flack leading up the the NCAA Tournament selections were announced this past Sunday.

Much of the criticism was centered around the lack of quality wins by the conference against teams from some of the major conferences.

Wichita State may have silenced some of the critics for just a little while.

Playing at home after losing in the semi-finals to eventual MVC champion and NCAA Tournament automatic qualified Indiana State, Wichita State destroyed visiting Nebraska of the Big 12 by the score 76-49.

Wichita State jumped out to a quick 10-0 to begin the game and never looked back, led by a defense that held the bigger and stronger Cornhuskers to just 34% shooting from the floor.

David Kyles came off the bench for the Shockers to lead the team in scoring with 13 points.  J.T. Durley scored 12 points and grabbed 6 rebounds while Graham Hatch chipped in 11 points of his own.

The blow out provides solid evidence of why Valley teams have so much trouble scheduling major schools in MVC gyms.

The big schools are scare to visit the likes of Wichita State, Missouri State and Creighton and the outcome of the Shockers first round game in the NIT is exactly why.
