Missouri State Must Wait To Find Out NCAA Tournament Destiny

The Missouri State Bears had a fantastic season.  There is no denying it.

The Bears won the Missouri Valley regular season conference championship for the first time in the school's history.

But because of a lousy 5-30 shooting performance during the second half of the MVC Tournament Championship game against Indiana State in St. Louis, the Bears must sit and wait.

Helpless to improve a resume that includes 25 wins, the Bears destiny rests in the hands of the tournament committee once again.

And MVC commissioner Doug Elgin told the Springfield News-Leader that there is no doubt in his mind that the Bears deserve to be in.

"I do think, in every respect, they meet the eye test," Elgin said.  "This is a team that has balance, they are well-coached and it's a team with veteran, senior leadership."

But many, like ESPN's Bracketology expert Joe Lunardi do not feel that the Bears have done enough to get in, citing a lack of a quality win in the non-conference schedule.

Elgin feels that the Bears resume should speak for itself.

"A question that gets asked over and over is what did this team or that team do to distinguish itself," Elgin said. "In this case, it's win a regular-season championship, with seven road wins.  There aren't many teams in consideration that will have seven road wins."

Elgin may very well be right, but it is looking more and more likely the Bears won't make the tournament.

And that is painful for many Missouri State fans.
