Indiana State To Face Syracuse In NCAA Tournament

Indiana State felt jubilation when they won the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament and the automatic-bid to the NCAA tournament last weekend in St. Louis, Missouri.

Today, they found out who they are facing and have drawn a difficult task.

The Sycamores will face the powerful Syracuse Orangemen in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Sycamores won't have to travel far, as the game will take place in Cleveland, Ohio.

But facing Syracuse and their tricky 2-3 defense will be a challenge for the Sycamores.

Syracuse will be bigger, stronger, faster, and likely better than Indiana State.

But Missouri Valley teams have a history of upsetting superior teams.  Just last year Northern Iowa upset Kansas in what was likely the game of the tournament.

Indiana State is led offensively by Dwayne Lathan, who averaged 11.0 points per game for the Sycamores.  Carl Richard averaged 9.8 points per game and point guard Jake Odum averaged 9.4

The Sycamores finished the season with a 20-13 record and finished the Missouri Valley regular season with a 12-6 conference record.

The key to Indiana State winning will be their stingy defense and matching up with the athleticism of Syracuse out of the Big East.

Indiana State will take on the powerful 'Cuse on Friday.  The time is still to be determined.
